Hardwood

Stairs are one of the most visible and high-traffic elements in any home. We install new solid hardwood treads and nosings, refinish existing stair surfaces, and integrate the staircase finish with the rest of your flooring for a cohesive look.

How It Works

We remove existing treads or prep the surface, install new hardwood or refinish in place, sand and stain to match your floor, and apply durable top coats for a result that handles daily wear.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you match the stain on my existing hardwood when doing the stairs?

We do our best to get a close match by testing stain samples on the actual wood species of your stairs before committing. Older floors with years of patina may not match perfectly, but we'll show you samples first so there are no surprises.

Should I refinish my stair treads or replace them?

If the existing treads are solid wood with enough thickness left to sand, refinishing is the more affordable option. If they're hollow, laminated, or worn through, replacement with new solid hardwood treads gives a better long-term result. We assess them on site and give you an honest recommendation.

How long does stair refinishing or new tread installation take?

A standard flight of stairs typically takes 1-2 days for tread replacement, or 2-3 days for full refinishing including dry time between coats. We do stairs in sections so you're not completely blocked from using them overnight.

Will the stairs be noisy after new treads are installed?

New solid treads glued and nailed correctly are very quiet. We use construction adhesive in addition to fasteners to eliminate any potential for squeaking at the riser-tread junction. If your existing structure has loose carriages, we address that before treads go on.
