General Contracting

Painting is sequenced precisely within a renovation — after drywall and before trim, or after trim and before flooring. Our painting crews work on the FR-PRO schedule, keeping your renovation on track without waiting for separate trades.

How It Works

Surfaces are prepped, primed where needed, and painted using roller and brush. Trim, doors, and cabinetry are cut in carefully. Two finish coats are standard. Touch-ups are done after floor installation is complete.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

When in the renovation sequence does painting happen?

Painting happens in two stages in most renovations. First pass is after drywall is complete and primed, but before trim and flooring - so painters can roll walls freely without worrying about protecting finished surfaces. Second pass is touch-ups after all trim, doors, and flooring are installed. This sequence keeps quality high and avoids damage to finished work.

How many coats of paint are standard?

One coat of primer plus two finish coats is our standard for walls and ceilings on previously painted or primed surfaces. New drywall gets a drywall primer first, then two finish coats. Trim and doors typically get a primer coat plus two coats of semi-gloss or satin, sanded lightly between coats for a smooth result.

Do you move furniture for painting?

We move standard furniture to the centre of the room and cover it before painting. Large items like pianos, pool tables, or built-ins that can't be moved are protected in place. Electronics and valuables should be removed from the room before painting begins. We clean up and return furniture to position before leaving.

What does cabinet repainting involve?

Cabinet repainting means removing all doors and drawers, cleaning and degreasing every surface thoroughly, sanding to scuff the existing finish, applying a bonding primer, and spraying two finish coats. Spray application is essential for a smooth result - rolling cabinets leaves texture. Hinges and hardware are cleaned or replaced. The whole process takes 3-5 days for a full kitchen.
