Tile & StoneTile & Stone
Mosaic tile adds artistry and detail to any space. Whether a glass tile accent wall, a stone mosaic shower floor, or a decorative kitchen backsplash border, our setters work with mesh-mounted sheets and custom designs with equal precision.
Mosaic sheets are dry-laid first to plan grout joint alignment and pattern transitions. Adhesive is applied in small sections to prevent skinning. Each sheet is pressed firmly, tapped level, and grouted once adhesive has cured.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is mosaic tile harder to install than regular tile?
Yes - mosaic tile is more time-consuming to install because of the sheer number of pieces, the need for precise grout joint alignment across mesh sheets, and the care required at pattern transitions and borders. We dry-lay the entire layout before committing to adhesive to catch any alignment issues before they're set in mortar.
What grout considerations apply to small mosaic joints?
Mosaic tile has much more grout surface area relative to the tile area compared to larger formats. This means grout colour has a bigger visual impact and unsanded grout (for joints under 1/8") is typically used. The grout also needs to be sealed because of the high joint-to-tile ratio. We discuss grout colour options carefully - it can completely change how a mosaic reads.
Is mosaic tile slip-resistant enough for a shower floor?
Mosaic tile is actually excellent for shower floors - the high number of grout joints provides natural traction, and small tiles follow the slope of the shower pan better than large format. Unglazed porcelain and stone mosaic offer the best grip. Polished stone or glass mosaic in a shower floor is not recommended as it can be dangerously slippery.
What is the difference between glass and stone mosaic in terms of installation?
Glass mosaic requires white or light-coloured thin-set because the glass is translucent - grey mortar shows through and discolours the tile. It also requires a non-sanded grout and very clean hands throughout installation. Stone mosaic installs more like standard tile but may need to be sealed before grouting to prevent the grout from staining the stone surface.
